Types of Decorative Pillows
Pillows are the easiest way to decorate any living space. A dull and boring couch can be made interesting by throwing a few new decorative pillows. Without purchasing all new expensive bedding, just a pillow swap can alter the whole look of your bed. Decorative pillows are available in all sizes, shapes, and colors; however they can be differentiated by their features.
Here are some of the most common types of decorative pillows:
Tasseled pillows mostly have a tassel at each corner, and often one in the middle for added dimension and detail. These pillows have an elegant look, which suits best in a more formal room.
Fringe:
Fringed pillows can be used in both a formal and a casual room, depending on the fabric they are made from. Silks and velvets are generally used in a living room, whereas micro-fibers and cottons are commonly found in a den. The length and thickness of the fringe varies from pillow to pillow.
Tapestry is an opulently woven fabric, mostly with pastoral or classical themes evocative of antique wall tapestries. Although hand-woven tapestry pillows are beyond many budgets, however machine-made pillows are omnipresent and also low-priced. Generally, these pillows come in the floral designs.
Tufts:
Tufted pillows have notches that are mostly marked by a button. Many tufts can range from one in the middle of the pillow to multiple tufts covering the entire top.
Quilting or Needlework:
Quilted pillows have several decorative stitched patterns.
A number of quilted pillow tops are the authentic item, joined from small pieces of fabric just like a patchwork. Other quilted pillow tops are a single piece of fabric that is quilted for show only.
Needlework pillows can be made by using any of a number of techniques, like needlepoint, cross stitch, candle-wicking, silk ribbon embroidery, and many more.
Cording:
A corded pillow usually has a decorative, sometimes braided, cord on all of its four sides. Cording often used in a contrasting color to create more interest, and it can be combined with other characteristics such as tassels, tufting, or quilting.
Bolster:
Bolster pillows are in cylindrical form, and are mostly found in the bedroom. Decorative bolster pillows are quite short in size; however those that are especially designed for support are mostly long enough to be placed at the head of the bed.
