Types of Decorative Vases

Vases have been used for decorative purposes for thousands of years and are still popular today. There are many different types of vases ranging from famed Grecian urns to the modernistic, blown-glass art vases. Although vases are often seen as a container for flowers, they can also be used alone to decorate the space.

Here are few types of decorative vases that you may consider while decorating your home.

Glass Vases:

Glass vases are the most common type of vases. A number of flower vases are made of glass. They can either be clear, etched, or carved into crystal.

Glass vases are available in all shapes and sizes ranging from thin, single-stem bud vases to vases large enough to hold plenty of roses. Moreover, these vases can be of any color and sometimes have scalloped sides or fluted rims.

Ceramic and Pottery Vases:

Ceramic and pottery vases can also be used for holding flowers, however they are mostly used alone as decorative items. A variety of decorative effects in these types of vases are created by using different types of materials and glazes.

There are some pottery vases that have polished stones or chips of glass embedded in the clay in order to create a mosaic pattern. In addition, many artists usually do hand-painting on ceramic vases, and create elaborated scenes on them that look quite fascinating and appealing.

Metal Vases:

Generally, metal vases are used as decorative items rather than used for holding fresh-cut flowers. They are mostly made of copper or brass, however often other metals are also used to make different sizes and shapes of vases. They can be almost any shape and sometimes have obscure designs. A wide range of wall vases are metal.

Other Vases:

Apart from the above mentioned vases, there are also other materials that are used to make decorative vases such as wood, bamboo, and even stone.

Almost every culture around the world has created different and distinctive vases. You just need to find the appropriate decorative vase that could complement rest of your interior decor.
